Wise Earth SadhanaAyurveda
Ayurveda is a holistic medical system which springs from the vision of Vedic rishis. The greatest physicians, physicists, and theologians of all times, the rishis, saw the universe's spiritual anatomy and understood its interworkings with the human body. This knowledge is called Vedas and dates back 7,000 years or more. Ayurveda is the oldest known holistic lifeways and medicine paradigm in the world. Its principles are deeply rooted in nature's intelligence and therefore in the integration of body, mind and spirit.

Wise Earth Ayurveda® - Unique Vision & Education of Inner Medicine Healing
Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, Ltd. is the first school for Ayurveda education in the USA. Established in 1981, Wise Earth School of Ayurveda is a non-profit organization nestled in the serene Pisgah Mountains of North Carolina. Wise Earth Ayurveda® curricula is recognized and approved by NAMA (National Ayurveda Medical Association). Through a quarter century of work, Wise Earth School of Ayurveda has trained hundreds of instructors and practitioners worldwide who have been disseminating Wise Earth Ayurveda® education and work.

Wise Earth Ayurveda® (or Ayurveda in Wise Earth Tradition) is a unique vision and education of inner medicine healing through sadhana. This work is a unique school of thought and practice developed by Mother Maya and based in her spiritually awakened vision and her knowledge of the Greater Vedas. This work has restored long lost knowledge of nature's interrelated nourishers -- Food, Breath and Sound (annavidya, pranavidya, and mantravidya).

Through Mother's vision, Wise Earth Ayurveda® has also unearthed and recovered the inherent knowledge of the universe's cosmic rhythm, memory and karma and their influence on the body, mind, and spirit of all life. Wise Earth Ayurveda® education teaches us to mine our own extraordinary resource of Inner Medicine by living everyday in sadhana -within nature's integrity- while preserving inner harmony and world peace. Wise Earth Ayurveda® is informed by the Greater Vedas. This unique education is non-clinical and non-dualistic in nature unlike the modern models of Ayurveda which approach is largely clinical and prescriptive. Wise Earth School is one of the only recognized schools in the world today that has been restoring the sadhana tradition of Ayurveda which has been out of practice since the beginning of India's medieval age (10th century, A.D.).

Wise Earth education teaches us to live in sadhana while preserving the Mother Consciousness – honoring her river, sky, earth, wind, and space. This is preventative medicine in its truest form. Wise Earth education is based in the principle of ahimsa. Like the original vaidyas- Atharvanas - our primary commitment is to harmony.  According to the Atharva Veda, Ayurveda’s timeless education of sadhana is the most effective spiritual path to awaken consciousness and enhance our Inner Medicine potential for healing ourselves. Originally, the entire broad scope of Ayurveda Medicine was practiced in the spirit of sadhana, but this original sadhana basis of Ayurveda has been profoundly eroded over the last two centuries in India. Firstly, by its decline in popularity owing to the introduction of Western Medicine, and later on by the Government of India’s attempts to modernize Ayurveda’s medicine principles. As a result, core principles within Ayurveda’s protocols were fragmented to meet the standards of Western Medicine’s clinical model. In so doing, the original sadhana model of Ayurveda became perverted, and a more prescriptive and far less intuitive form of medicine ensued.

This is not to suggest that the popularized clinical version of Ayurveda does not have its merits. In fact, Ayurveda’s adaptation to Western Medicine principles makes it a perfect catalyst to help transform Western medicine’s treatment protocols into more effective ones for the human physiognomy. This necessary feat of integration also meets the medical dependency of the multitudes with the non-toxic approaches and medicines of Ayurveda.  However, restoring Ayurveda’s organic model so that its original principles of Inner Medicine healing may be preserved is also necessary. To promote the vision of the ancient seers, Mother Maya have spent the last quarter century reclaiming and reintroducing Ayurveda’s original grassroots sadhana teachings, which we call, “Wise Earth Ayurveda,” differentiating them from the present-day clinical Ayurveda.

Whatever is the inspiration or calling, each one of us has a divine right to choose healing and to be healed through myriad ways and means. The important thing is that we must be able to meet each and every person at whatever milestone they may be found in their individual journey of consciousness. To help another person, we must not only accommodate them but gleefully embrace the chance to meet them at any juncture of their journey. This is the core intention of Wise Earth Ayurveda education and teachings.

Wise Earth Ayurveda: The Philosophy & Teachings
Cardinal Principles of Wise Earth Sadhana

  • Wholeness: Realizing the true self to be one with nature
  • Simplicity: Practicing humility through surrender to nature's intelligence
  • Harmony: Committing to harmony within and without
  • Memory: Restoring cosmic, cognitive, and ancestral memories
  • Rhythm: Honoring nature's nourishers: Food, Breath and Sound
  • Sacred Practice: Aligning every activity in accord with nature's rhythms
  • Consciousness: Cultivating inner awareness and knowingness

Wise Earth Sadhana lays the foundation for cultivating inner awareness and reclaiming our connections to nature's rhythms (cyclical, daily, seasonal, lunar, and solar), thereby carrying the potential for self-healing and profound peace. Wise Earth Sadhana informs that food, breath and sound are the three nourishers of nature through which we can live in peaceful accord with Her and discover the true self. It is one of the most significant tools for self-healing. In Wise Earth practice, we realize that disharmony and disease arise from forgetfulness of the Self as being One with the Whole.

In Wise Earth Sadhana practice we learn "the principles of ahimsa" to be mindful "and non-hurting" of the living earth within and without. We learn to see, intuit, and honor the self, humans, trees, animals, birds, and fishes as sacred life. This path of practice with food, breath and sound, connects us to the greater energies of nature. Just as we cannot separate body, mind and spirit, neither can we separate Food, Breath and Sound from each other. Integrally connected, they provide a path of practice that brings us in harmony with nature's rhythms and helps us to cultivate good health, profound peace, and an understanding of our cosmic anatomy.
Mother Maya informs that an integral part of our cosmic anatomy is cognitive memory (individual memories gathered from previous lives). Awakening this memory is essential before healing is possible.

Wise Earth work evolves from Mother Maya’s awakening and wisdom of the Mother Consciousness. The central purpose of this education is to strengthen and grow personal awareness of the individual so they reorder their inner medicine power to heal and be whole.

We are always mindful of the moment. When we engage every moment without the cares and fears of the beyond, we are able to harness the spirit of sadhana, and every moment is filled with divinity. Sadhana can be practiced simply by breathing, having a compassionate thought, saying a kind word, reaching for a blade of grass, plucking a fruit from its vine, sitting in the sun and feeling its warmth, touching the earth with bare feet. In short, sadhana is the integral connection that keeps us forever dancing in rhythmic measure with the cosmic pulse. Our moment-to-moment awareness of this connection is the heart of sadhana.

You can begin your journey on the Wise Earth Sadhana path of practice by embracing the integration of body, mind and spirit through nature's nourishers of Food, Breath and Sound. Each of these is integral to our existence: we literally cannot function without breath; we are immersed in the sound of our mother's heartbeat and rhythms from the moment of conception; we are dependent for sustenance and growth on the bounty of nature's food.
