The
life of all creation, prana causes the earth to revolve
around the sun, and the moon to orbit around the earth.
Prana moves the air, water, nerves, memory cells,
and the ocean tides. It is the basis of thought and consciousness
within the body and in all creations. Conscious breathing
helps to calm the mind so that our thoughts come into harmony
with our intuition.
In the
Sadhana of Breath classes, we will learn about pranayama,
the regulation of and expansion of breath, which is one
of the central practices of yoga. We teach various breathing
techniques specifically designed to control our physical
and mental energies. Awareness of breath is the basis of
meditation. When the breath is agitated or unsteady, our
thoughts are scattered and our actions confused. When our
breath is steady, so are the mind and body. As you will
see, meditation is not an act of will or simply the practice
of sitting and observing the breath as it flows in a calm,
steady manner. The purpose of meditation is to quiet the
mind, give a focused energy to the nervous system, and transcend
visible, audible, tangible reality. The moment-to-moment
awareness that you cultivate through sadhana practice
is the ultimate meditation.
