We feed the gods and goddesses before we feed ourselves.
The
Food Altar is at the center of Wise Earth Kitchen. Many traditions
share the custom of offering a small portion of cooked food to
the Divine Giver of all nourishment before the meal is served
or tasted. The first portion is given to the universe as a token
of gratitude.
In Vedic
tradition, a small fire is lit in an earthen or brass pot, which
is kept on a stand or altar in the kitchen, and the food is offered
into the fire. The offering may be accompanied by any form of
prayer you choose.
