Inside the Wise Earth School

Vedic Altar

Altars are installed on hearths throughout the Wise Earth Hermitage -- as sacred points for morning and evening prayers and meditation. Images of Shiva, Ganesha, Parvati, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Durga take to inspiring the spirit of devotion and blessedness in everyone who imbibe Wise Earth sacred space and energies.

We feed the gods and goddesses before we feed ourselves.

The Food Altar is at the center of Wise Earth Kitchen. Many traditions share the custom of offering a small portion of cooked food to the Divine Giver of all nourishment before the meal is served or tasted. The first portion is given to the universe as a token of gratitude.

In Vedic tradition, a small fire is lit in an earthen or brass pot, which is kept on a stand or altar in the kitchen, and the food is offered into the fire. The offering may be accompanied by any form of prayer you choose.
